Read Across America Day

On March 2nd, in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday McKinley students celebrated Read Across America Day.  Students and staff wore pajamas to ensure they were comfortable so that they could read throughout the day.  Our classrooms hosted guest speaker readers, virtual author read alouds, made craft projects, had buddy reading between lower and upper grades, and even had yummy treats throughout the day.  The students had a wonderful time with all the day's special activities and showed a true hunger for reading and learning.  It was wonderful to see and hear the students' overwhelming joy as they celebrated the day.

As McKinley continues to encourage reading and building foundational reading skills, we will continue to plan activities that support that learning both here in our classrooms as well as in the homes of our students.  We encourage all students and their family members to sign up for library cards through the San Jose Public Library System.  Please reach out to us if you need support with this process, we would be happy to help! Also, check out the carts in front of the library that are filled with free books for students to take home and add to the family library.
