Hello McKinley Families,
On behalf of the teachers and staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2017-2018 School Year! We are very excited to work with you this year to continue supporting our children in becoming successful students and individuals.
One change this school year is the start of a monthly Character Focus Assembly. During these school-wide assemblies, we will help students develop an understanding of the skills and traits needed to be a good citizen. I hope you will join us for our first assembly on Friday, September 1 at 8:00am on the upper grade blacktop when we learn about our first traits: Respect & Responsibility.
As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and we want you to know that we do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he or she:
1. Attends school daily and arrives on time
2. Completes all homework assignments
3. Reads daily to improve literacy skills
With respect to student placement, a great deal of time and effort has gone into the process. Careful consideration was given to input from staff and families as well as student learning styles. Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher.
Our classrooms have been balanced academically and socially and our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level. Moving students is difficult and causes imbalances and inequities for students. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group, and teacher.
Thank you to all who are helping prepare for the new school year. I eagerly look forward to greeting students and families again. It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your principal. Please stop by and say hello. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children.
